The program begins with an operatic overture, followed by three popular piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that spanned the trajectory of his creative career. His Piano Concerto No.13 in C major was written for himself at a time when the young artist moved from Salzburg to Vienna. The Piano Concerto No.16 in D major was written a year later, and the intricate orchestration attests to unending inspiration. Two years later, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A major was written when he had already attained fame and good fortune. The aria-like melodies and the mournful slow movement have captured many hearts through the ages.
