HIGHLIGHT
The third of Dvořák’s trilogy of concert overtures is Othello, which is far more dramatic than his second, the Carnival Overture. The Violin Concerto in A Minor, with bold and beautiful musical ideas, enchanting melodies and delightful orchestration, is an exemplar of the composer’s nationalist sentiments. Dvořák’s Symphony No.7 in D Minor has been praised alongside Schubert’s the “Great” and Brahms’s four symphonies as works of exceptional importance in the nineteenth century. This program pays tribute to the great Bohemian composer in three musical genres.
