HIGHLIGHT
Danse Macabre is the third of Saint-Saëns’ four tone poems. It is his most popular orchestral piece that is renowned for its strange humor and horror film ambience. The Concerto in D minor for Two Pianos and Orchestra marks a pinnacle among Poulenc’s early works. Although two pianos are utilized in the piece, it is mainly written in a lyrical style, whether solo or orchestral, with crisp phrasing, just like French literature. The whole concerto exudes a light and pleasant atmosphere, combining passionate, active and dynamic music with quiet and serene passages. Shostakovich’s Symphony No.10 in E minor is considered to be the composer’s best effort in his middle period.
