HIGHLIGHT
Richard Strauss is an operatic and orchestral master of the late Romantic era, renowned for his superb instrumentation and unique dramatic effects. “Im Abendrot” from his final work, Vier Letzte Lieder (Four Last Songs), looks back on life with the metaphor of the setting sun. Here composer Zou Ye replaces the human voice with the solo violin. Strauss’s two iconic symphonic poems, Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, have become well-loved orchestral repertory for decades. Fidl-Fantazye is composed by Berlin Philharmonic first concertmaster Noah Bendix-Balgley, who draws inspiration from folk music of his Jewish ancestry. Klezmer music is famous for its wide range of emotions, just like life—where there’s both laughter and tears.
