Noah Bendix-Balgley, violin
HIGHLIGHT
Sibelius was a great composer, proud of his heritage and a Finnish icon to the world. His Violin Concerto in D major presents remarkable contrast between soloist and orchestra, in which the soloist plays almost consistently throughout the work, displaying virtuosity and sophistication. His Symphony No.2 in D major contains a strong Finnish identity and tonal colors of northern Europe, filled with nuanced treatment of folk materials cast in many shades between light and darkness.
2075th concert since the GSO’s inaugural “Music Season” in May 1998
