Frank Peter Zimmermann, violin
HIGHLIGHT
From the opera Peter Grimes, Britten selected four interludes that are closely integrated with the plot development. They are like four paintings of ever-changing seascapes, placing the audience in the vast ocean. The composer’s earlier Simple Symphony comprises four movements with hints of neo-Classical and neo-Baroque influences yet retains its humor. Elgar’s Violin Concerto in B Minor is full of rich melodies, pastoral harmonies and rich instrumental colors. It is a perfect picture matching violin solo and the orchestra.
