HIGHLIGHT
César Franck was a composer who bridges late Romanticism to early Modernism. His Symphony in D minor is his only symphony, embodying years of hard work, opening up a new world in the territory of French music and laying a solid foundation for Franck’s reputation. Strongly influenced by Liszt and Wagner, Franck opened the path for Debussy, Ravel and other successors. Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte is an elegant and contemplative work. Just like the impressionist school, Ravel can turn pure sound into beauty and mystery. His Piano Concerto in G major is at once like chamber music, but is also exuberant and jazz-like.
