HIGHLIGHT

Eros Athanato is a work composed by Richard Dubugnon and dedicated to pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and cellist Gautier Capuçon. French colors, lucid harmonies and delicate rhythms therein are specially designed to reflect the exquisite Gallic character of the two dedicatees. This performance marks Eros Athanato’s China premiere. Jiu Ge was created at the behest of Maestro Long Yu, and this version is jointly commissioned by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Beijing Music Festival Arts Foundation. Comprising eleven movements with the Chinese erhu as protagonist replacing the human voice, this world premiere of Jiu Ge combines Chinese and Western instrumentation, creating vivid characters and musical images of mortals and deities.
