Donizetti’s Don Pasquale depicts women’s beguiling yet wise and candid nature in the first-act aria “Quel guardo il cavaliere”. Bellini’s Norma have moved many a music-lover to tears with its touching yet pure melodies; the iconic aria “Casta Diva,” sung by the title character, captures the protagonist’s inner struggle through prayer, tugging her heart between love and duty. Verdi’s I Vespri Siciliani ’s final act aria “Mercè, dilette amiche” radiating pure bridal joy. Berlioz’s masterpiece Symphonie fantastique has highly autobiographical .
