HIGHLIGHT

Carl Maria von Weber and Robert Schumann were stalwarts of German romanticism, yet their personal lives were both tumultuous. Schumann’s Symphony No.1 (“Spring”) chronicles his ecstasy of marital bliss with Clara Wieck. Not even a decade later, his Manfred Overture mirrors the emotional depths of his battles with depression. Of all the horn concertos in the repertory, Weber’s has long been heralded as a true touchstone. Weber’s rich orchestral colors shimmer between Schumann’s two compositions.
