HIGHLIGHT
This program surveys a century of modern music. Apart from Paul Hindemith’s Mathis der Maler, a work that caused quite a controversy at its premiere, there is also William Walton’s Viola Concerto, which catapulted his fame at age 27. American composer Maurice Wright composed Resound Drums specifically for Don Luzzi, principal timpani of the Philadelphia Orchestra, who will appear as soloist in this concert.
