National First-Class Pipa player, Director of the Professional Pipa Committee of China Nationalities Orchestra Society and Chinese Musicians Association, Executive Director of the Guangdong Province Nationalities Orchestra Society, Miao Xiaozheng currently teaches in the Department of Chinese Music at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. Graduated from traditional instruments department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Miao is former Principal Pipa of the Guangdong National Orchestra. She has fascinated audiences throughout Germany, Switzerland, Vienna, Poland, South Africa, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and other countries and regions. In 2002, Miao successfully presented a solo recital at the Xinghai Concert Hall, and released a live concert CD/ VCD. Subsequently, she presented recital/ensemble concerts at the Xinghai Concert Hall respectively in 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2018. Miao is also well documented in many CD/VCD productions, including solo album CD “India Lute”, “the First Chemical Element”, “12 Girls of the Red Chamber”, etc. Miao has been repeatedly awarded as the “Outstanding Musician of the Guangdong Province” by the Guangdong Musician Association. She was included in the Musicians List of “China Music · Pipa Volume” published by the Shanghai Music Publishing House. In recent years, she has hosted and participated in a number of provincial and national research projects. Among them, “Linfeng-Pipa Chamber Music Works” won the 2019 China National Arts Fund project funding. Miao founded the Linfeng Pipa Chamber Orchestra in 2016 and has won numerous prizes in national competitions with the Orchestra. Miao Xiaozheng receives critical acclaims for her sophisticated techniques, pursuing simple natural beauty with focus on firmness and flexibility, making the music full of strong artistic appeal.
